THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS - Philosophy, Concept and Goals
Welcome to THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS,
The term "Thanatos" does not only refer to a death god found in Greek mythology, it is describes the concept of "the drive towards death, self-destruction and the return to the inorganic" (Wikipedia).
THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS wants to cover all spectres of life-defying art. Every type of obscure, cruel, melancholic, surreal and negative art is of interest to this blog. Choices and evaluation will be made based on personal taste and not on subjective criteria. Regardless of their public renown, all the works and persons featured on this page incorporate, each in their very own way, the spirit of true thanatic art and are therefore THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS. Furthermore, the way each work is, or has been, received in public is not relevant to its existence on this blog. No matter if it's a critically acclaimed work of modern art or most primitve gutter-filth: if the criteria are met, it will be featured.
There is no self-applied censorship on THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS. "Rules" related to genre and other peoples' ethical boundraries will NOT be taken into account. THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS sees itself as a vehicle for outsider art and clearly distances itself from childish provovation. However, many of the themes and works reviewed here may prove to be too explicit for some viewers. Art knows no limits and I refuse to set up any artistic boundraries on this page. There will be some minor restrictions when it comes to some of the pictures uploaded here, due to legal issues, which will not be violated.
Despite the broad selection of various forms of art, emphasis is put on these genres:
- Film: Experimental Cinema, Extreme Cinema, Art Cinema, Controversial Melodrama, Splatter, All Kinds of Exploitation
- Music: Power Electronics/(Harsh) Noise/HNW/Death Industrial, Black Metal (in all its forms), German Rap, Various Types of Extreme Metal
- Art Fotography, Painting, Collage Art
- Pornography, Sadomasochism in all formats and especially JAV
- Amateur Splatter (escpecially hailing from Germany)
- Philosophy
- Not welcome: Politics (no matter what kind), political discussions and religious debates in general
THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS is in no way simply another boring review blog, it should rather be understood as a webzine, in which not only reviews, but also interviews and articles about complex themes are of great importance. In my opinion, there are already too many blogs which contain nothing more than short reviews on the usual mainstream films. THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS only sees this as a part of its work, although it is surely a very important one. The blog is also very self-critical regarding its content. A certain qualitaty standard is obligatory and must be met at all times! There will be no spamming and no half-ready or inferior contributions. THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS is a one-man project fully dedicated to art. What a typical mainstream consumer may think of the films, music and visual art presented here, plays no role at all. THANATIC MANIFESTATION is a blog created by a true fanatic for true fanatics. Mainstream media is not instantly rejected or generally frowned upon, but the main focus clearly lies on underground culture. THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS welcomes all contact with creators of art, no matter how unknown they may be, and is, last but not least, also a plattform for promotion.
THANATIC MANIFESTATIONS is a bilingual webzine and is available in German and English. There are links to each respective version on both pages. The German version is entitled "THANATISCHE MANIFESTATIONEN".
